CCLS presents the NEA Big Read 2020

Made possible with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest

In June of 2020 CCLS was awarded a grant from National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to host a Big Read for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.  We are excited to announce the book is Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link, a book of short stories.  Check below to register for events such as a conversation with Kelly Link, our Local Author Panels, and Art sessions with local artists.  All these events will happen between Oct. 1st and Nov. 6th, and we can’t wait to share the Big Read together.  Remember to join in a book discussion happening at several of the member libraries, the list is below.

Pretty Monster Art! 

Anyone in the community who creates art influenced by Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link is invited to send a picture of your art to be highlighted on our webpage and social media at the end of the Big Read!

” Kelly Link is the author of the collections Stranger Things Happen, Magic for Beginners, Pretty Monsters, and Get in Trouble. Her short stories have been published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, The Best American Short Stories, and Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards. She has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. She and Gavin J. Grant have co-edited a number of anthologies, including multiple volumes of The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror and, for young adults, Steampunk! and Monstrous Affections. She is the co-founder of Small Beer Press and co-edits the occasional zine Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet.  Link was born in Miami, Florida. She currently lives with her husband and daughter in Northampton, Massachusetts. ”
