Safe Harbor: Stories of Enduring Friendship- reflects the importance of friendship in my life and in the lives of others who shared their stories for the book.

I grew up in a home with newspapers covering the kitchen table and magazines spilling from bookcase shelves. After earning a journalism degree and launching my working life at the St. Paul Pioneer Press/Dispatch, I followed an inner compass north to Alaska. I spent the next 15 years writing for newspapers and magazines. Alaska would be my home for 45 years. In Juneau I started a tour business, Alaska Up Close. It inspired my first book, Red & Blue: A Memoir of Two Alaskan Tour Guides, written with colleague Hildegard Ratliff.

Dark Riddle –

When a child goes “bad,” who, or what, is to blame? Until the day that sixteen-year-old Luke Clayton commits a heinous crime and then takes his own life, his struggling single mother of five values his serious nature and dependability. Luke leaves no explanation for his horrendous actions and no suicide note, but inside the dead teen’s jacket is a short story. His devastated mother and the author of that story become unlikely partners as they plumb the depths of Luke’s shadowy journey from good son to evil murderer.

Convergence –

When a human connection is made unexpectedly, out of nowhere, hope arises; life seems full of possibilities and worth living, even in the darkest times.

So concludes Leigh Ann Fray’s latest Convergences column, through which she observes and explores how fate can intercede and transform lives. Suddenly, chance intervenes in her own life when she receives a flattering email from a long forgotten boyfriend. He wonders: Would she be interested in reconnecting, for old time’s sake?  Phil Perrero’s true motivation for reaching out to her, however, is much more complicated.

Chautauqua County has been my home for most of my life. A proud graduate of Fredonia State College, I taught high school and college English for 26 years. I started writing fiction in earnest a few years into my retirement and my third novel is underway. My husband and I have four children and six grandchildren, and except in the winter when we flee south, we reside in Bemus Point.
